De La Soul is hip hop trio formed in 1987 on Long Island, NY. The group is best known for their eclectic sampling, quirky lyrics and contributions to the jazz rap and alternative hip hop subgenres. Their debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, is considered a hip hop masterpiece and earned the group much critical and commercial success. They have maintained their relevancy over the years and have been cited as huge influences by artists like the Black Eyed Peas, Mos Def and the Digable Planets.
